Blog Assignment #1: Filmmakers Statement – What film related experiences have you had? What do you hope to learn in this course? Where do you hope to be in 10 years as a filmmaker/artist? What is something unique (not film related) that we don’t know about you?
I have never worked on a set, but I’ve been getting really into photography lately - I shoot on a Nikon d3400 in manual mode, so I’m familiar with how to properly expose a shot with the shutter, aperture, and iso. I have a background in traditional art (painting, drawing) so I’m familiar with composition. I really enjoy following my friends around on their errands and trying to frame what they’re doing with my camera. I feel like it allows me to appreciate the beauty in our world more - it’s always there but it’s much more apparent when framed well.
In this course I hope to learn how to make things look good with a camera (well composed, properly exposed, etc.) and edit it in premiere, as well as strengthen my ability to work with others and collaborate on projects. I hope to become a reliable and useful person to have on sets, as well to gain a better understanding of how the film industry works and how I can contribute.
As far as my hopes for where I will be in ten years, I’m not sure exactly what I want to do yet, although I have an interest in cinematography and editing. I am eager and looking forwards to gaining experiences that will tell me more about where I can be most helpful and what I enjoy doing most in film. As far as a career goes, I imagine that as long as the bills are being paid, and I have creative influence over something, I’ll be happy.
Something unrelated to film about me is that I paint and draw a lot - I feel a tremendous pressure to be creating often, and when I don’t have new photos to edit I usually turn to painting. I really enjoy art theory and film theory and I can spend hours in museums - I am somewhat into art history but my favorite periods to study are modern and contemporary art.
